Tutorial Support
We want every student at our college to be supported in a way that helps them to achieve as well as they can.
Here are some comments made by students in 2009 about the help they received from their tutors:
“She has helped (and is still helping) with all my practical problems. If it wasn’t for her, I would never have made it this far.”
“She is a very supportive, caring, fun person, who is always there when you need her.”
“Our tutor never gives up on us, even when we want to give up.”
For this reason every full-time student at the college has a personal tutor and time set aside each week for tutorial. The role of the personal tutor is to monitor the progress of each tutee, to help a tutee to create realist action plans and to arrange for any necessary support and guidance.
The kind of issues that your tutor will help you with include:
• Making progress on your course
• Progression (moving into work of further education once your course is finished)
• Personal well being
• Any learning needs you may have
Your tutor will be able to direct you to support from the college Student Services team which includes people who can help you with a range of issues: from claiming EMA and travel costs to accessing specific careers’ advice or meeting with a trained counsellor. Your tutor may also discuss with you any additional study support needs to ensure that you get the most out of your course.
Progress Reports and Parents' Evenings
Parents are always welcome to discuss their son or daughter's progress with the Personal Tutor or Curriculum Manager. In many of the curriculum areas, parents are invited to Parents' Evenings, while in others, written reports are circulated.
