Support for Deaf and Hearing Impaired Students

Before the course starts:
Support during interviews and course inductions
'Taster' days - come and try some classes to help you decide which course you want to do
An assessment of your needs so we know how best to support you
On the course:
Signed support - BSL (British Sign Language), SSE (Sign Supported English), Total Communication (TC), etc
Note-taking
Modification of course materials to allow better understanding
Individual tutorials to help students prepare for and/or follow up classes
Communication support on work experience placements and residential trips
Extra time and appropriate resources for examinations
Equipment and Resources
Course videos can be subtitled or transcribed
Technical equipment such as radio aids can be borrowed
Audiological support - advice and support on how to look after hearing aids and manage hearing loss
Speech therapy can be arranged
Training sessions on problems associated with deafness are provided for lecturers and fellow hearing students
