Student Mentoring

Student MentoringHere at OCVC we offer a peer mentoring support service which is a student to student scheme to help you through your studies. They are students like you that have decided to get involved and help others where they can. Mentors can help you with your coursework, social interactivity and help you with any day to day worries or problems. They can also be used to point out further services that you may require and that are available to you as a member of this college.

Benefits of having a Mentor

Speak to someone your own age, who is already a Student here and who can relate to you and your situation.
Meet new people in college
Get the support you need to achieve
Have someone help and support you with your coursework
Have a friendly ear when times are tough

When they are available
Mentors are available for up to an hour a week you can meet with your mentor during your breaks, study periods and sometimes in class. You decide how and when a mentor can help you. A mentor is not someone to enforce rules and regulations but someone that is there to help you with your studies, social interaction and will only act on your behalf where requested.
A mentor receives full training and support and will maintain confidentiality at all times, so basically what you tell them will be kept between yourself and your mentor.
Mentors and Mentees will also benefit from the support of Nickia the colleges Mentoring Coordinator.

Interested in becoming a Mentor or Mentee or just for more information please contact Nickia on; 01865 551 023 or 07717 763 225, nblackstock@ocvc.ac.uk or visit her at DG17 (Oxford) or Student Services (Banbury).
