Students at UTC Reading collected their results last Thursday for the first time.
65 students have now completed the Sixth Form and will be progressing on to university, apprenticeships or employment.
UTC students take BTEC qualifications in computer science and engineering, complemented with A-levels and many have achieved high UCAS points and will be progressing on to university this autumn.
The BTEC average grade was D*- with an A-level pass rate of 100%.
During their time in the Sixth Form the students have had the opportunity to work on projects such as designing the classroom of the future with industry partner Cisco as well as gaining professional qualifications from Microsoft, Cisco and Autodesk.
Student Kai Man, who achieved D*D*D* in his Engineering BTEC and got a grade A in Maths A-level is progressing on to a civil engineering degree at Bath University.
Kai said “I have met some amazing people at the UTC. The teachers are brilliant. Doing a BTEC and an A-level together is great preparation for university. I am used to studying hard, managing my own time and meeting deadlines.”
Luke Waterson also gained a BTEC at D*D*D* in engineering and studied A-level Maths and is now moving on to a top engineering apprenticeship with Jaguar Land Rover. Luke said “The UTC has been really good and less focussed on university as the only option to move on to. Lots of us are going on to do apprenticeships.”
“It was very competitive to get this apprenticeship with an online application, online tests and attending a selection day at Warwickshire University so I am really pleased to have been successful.”
Joanne Harper, Principal said “We are absolutely delighted with the fantastic results from our first graduates. A particular highlight is the average grade per vocational qualification of D*-.”
“Seeing the students collecting their results and planning their futures has been one of the most rewarding days of my career.”
UTC Reading was recently rated Outstanding by Ofsted and is the first University Technical College in the country to achieve this.
