The author of a series of popular novels is launching a new website with the help of students from Banbury and Bicester College.
Mark Walden is author of the popular H.I.V.E series of young adult novels. H.I.V.E is a top secret school in which children learn the skills to become criminal masterminds.
Mark’s website had not been updated since its first launch and Sarah Walden, Mark's wife and agent, contacted the college to detail a live brief for students.
The result was setting a competition to games development students, challenging them to work in pairs and present back a visual revamp of the www.markwalden.net website.
After earlier visits to present the brief and give a first round of feedback, Mark and Sarah visited the Game Development class a final time on Wednesday 24 June to announce the winners of the competition.
Duo's James Mitchell and James Clark, as well as, Jordan Holt and Charlie Pearson were presented with a £100 award for each team and the opportunity to be involved with the implementation of the updated website that is planned to launch alongside Mark Walden's upcoming book release.
Andre Van Rooijen, Games Design and ICT teacher said: “The collaboration with Mark and Sarah Walden is another successful example of game development students using their talents for real clients.
“During the event Mark Walden shared an inspirational view on writing for young audiences, much like the students, that are overwhelmed by interactive media, including games. Mark's history as a Computer Game Developer, he was a senior producer in charge of developing PlayStation games for Sony before taking up writing full time, made for an engaging experience for the students.”
William Stevens, one of the students and a long-time fan of the H.I.V.E series was also lucky enough to have Mark sign and dedicate a copy of the book to him.
