City of Oxford College hosted the first of three events designed to help parents of teenagers understand the options after GCSEs.
The ‘What next after GCSEs?’ events aim to provide impartial advice and guidance to parents as they work with their children to plan for the future.
At the first event on Wednesday (10 June), parents enjoyed presentations from experts in further and higher education, as well as careers advisors and employers.
The session covered:
• What employers are looking for
• Understanding the teenage brain
• Routes to higher education
• Getting the right careers advice
After the event, one parent said: “(This is) an absolute must for all parents that have a child going into further education, especially for the first time. It makes the next stage for pupil and parent seem more exciting than daunting, while also providing some invaluable advice for our teenagers.”
Activate Learning will be hosting two further events on Monday 15 June at Reading College and Wednesday 24 June at Banbury and Bicester College (both 6-8pm).
