Furniture Superstars at Oxford & Cherwell Valley College

Furniture Superstars at Oxford & Cherwell Valley College and
Fine cutting edge tools for young furniture makers…

The renowned Rycotewood Furniture Centre at OCVC hosted an event this week that drew hundreds of furniture making and carpentry enthusiasts. Talking Tools was a collaboration between Axminster Tool Centre and the college and a rare treat for students and the wider woodworking community.  Flown in from the USA especially to join fellow Brits were highly respected superstar craftsmen, among them Robert Ingham, David Charlesworth, John Lloyd and Colwin Way.

Visitors grabbed the chance to try their hand at a stunning range of activities, including rasping, planing and hand sawing and watched Thomas Lie-Nielsen and Deneb Puchalski demonstrating the versatility of coveted Lie-Nielsen hand tools.

As Chris Hyde, Rycotewood Programme Manager described, “This has been such a winning collaboration. We’ve had the opportunity to share the special history of furniture making here at the college and promote our excellent courses. The award winning work of our students gets a whole new audience and the centre benefits from some extremely fine new tools, thanks to Axminster.”

One visiting student summed it up, “This has got to be the best equipped college workshop in the UK!”
