Fashion
The fashion courses offered at OCVC cover a broad range of topics which can lead to many different options. Last year thirteen of the fourteen students at Oxford progressed successfully onto higher education courses, four students are now studying at London College of Fashion and one student has gone to work with a local retailer as a visual merchandiser.
While on the course you will undertake a selection of project assignments that develop research, drawing, design and production skills. Projects cover the design, illustration and production of a variety of garments including daywear, outerwear, jersey and separates (depending on level of course). You will be taught life drawing to support fashion illustration skills as well as using the photography and IT suites to support professional presentation and portfolio building. All students do an element of fashion promotion, this can support progression from the courses, either into a freelance role or part of setting up a small business.
We have well equipped studios on both campuses. Students use a wide range of materials for building both garments and accessories. Project work is usually linked to either a live industrial competition or current exhibitions, displays or visits, these are currently organised to Bath Costume Museum, Victoria and Albert Museum, other London venues, as well as local resources like Pitt Rivers Museum, Bates Collection and Ashmolean Museum. Each year a trip to Paris is organised to visit Premier Vision, a trend and colour prediction show.
