Study Support
The college is committed to providing an environment that helps successful learning. We offer a variety of support mechanisms which can be tailored to individual needs. The achievement rate for learners who access additional support is consistently above 95%.
Study Support
All full time students undertake an initial assesment in literacy and numeracy to ensure that they are stuyding at the appropriate level to identify any potential needs.
Extra help may be available to support students with their; Literacy, Numeracy and Organisational and study skills.
All students who request support will have a 1-2-1 diagnostic interview to asses their requirements and to develop an individual support package tailored to their needs. Students with a range of difficulties including ADHD and Asperger syndrome have all been successfully supported by the team.
Additional Skills Mentors
Additional skills mentors (ASMs) may be available to work with individual students both in and out of class on a 1-2-1 basis. Mentors support students on both their main course and functional skill course.
Hearing Support
The Hearing Support Centre at OCVC offers support to students who are deaf or have a hearing impairment. We can arrange individual programmes of support which enable students to have equal access to their chosen course. We encourage any deaf or hearing impaired person to apply for full or part time courses offered by the college.
Dyslexia support
Specialist screening and assessments for dyslexia are available to all students from our team of highly qualified specialist teachers. This may lead to individual programmes of support, special examination arrangements, full diagnosis assessments and/or help with applications for Higher Education grants for students with dyslexia.
Language support
Individual support may be available for students whose first language is not English. Students may require additional tuition to help them complete their course successfully.
Mental health
The college has a range of services to support students with mental health problems, including college counsellors, study support tutors and a supportive pastoral care system. In addition, good relationships are maintained with external support agencies such as Restore. These can be accessed via the Oxford Access Centre.
