Part-time A Levels and GCSEs
At OCVC we offer a successful part-time A level and GCSE programme. These courses are, for the most part, taught in the evening. We have run these courses for many years, and exam results have always been excellent. Students go on to a variety of different University degrees, including Medicine, Veterinary Science, Child Psychology, English Literature, Modern Foreign Languages and Philosophy.
What are the entry requirements for evening classes?
To be accepted onto an evening A level course we would normally expect you to have 5 or more C grades (or equivalent) at GCSE. To be accepted onto an evening A level language course you need a GCSE grade A*, A, or B in the language you wish to study.
To be accepted onto an evening GCSE course we normally expect you to have a D grade (or equivalent) in the subject you are planning to take. To be accepted onto an evening GCSE language course you need to have completed a beginners' course (approximately 50 learning hours).
How do I apply for an evening course?
For some courses an interview is required. This interview will involve a brief chat on the phone in which we will check that the course is suited to your needs. If you contact the college you will be sent an application form. Please fill this in and we will contact you.
For other evening A level courses you will not need an interview, but we do recommend that you contact us if you are unsure about whether this course is right for you. If you phone Melanie Hiney (see contact details below) he will make sure someone calls you back.
Do I have to take the exam?
If you are taking our Biology and/or Chemistry courses we do expect you to take the exams at the end of the year.
If you are taking Philosophy, English Literature or Psychology you do not have to commit immediately to taking the exam: at the beginning of the year you will pay for tuition up to the end of March, and then if you decide to take the exam you will pay a further fee which will include preparation for the exam in the summer term.
If you are studying a Modern Foreign Language, you do not have to commit immediately to taking the exam: in September you will pay for tuition up to the end of March. If you decide to take the exam, you will pay a further fee in January which will include exam registration and the preparation workshop in the summer term.

Based on the results of initial assesment you will be enrolled or directed to a more appropriate course.
