OCVC offers a wide range of languages from beginners to advanced level. Our experienced and enthusiastic tutors are committed to making sure you get the very best from the class to meet your needs.

If you want to learn a language, we offer a wide range of stimulating courses to build your proficiency and confidence at all levels. Classes are interactive and entertaining and our tutors have access to a wide range of resources and technologies. Below is a sample of comments from past students:

How our courses are structured
Before you decide which class to join, please check the tables below to find out which course and which level would be appropriate for you.
Conversation classes 10 weeks, 1 course per term
Conversation classes are a relaxed way to improve your communication skills in your chosen language in a friendly, informal environment. The guide below is intended as an indication of the average level, but the courses are flexible so do not be put off if you feel a bit rusty!

Conversation Plus |
People able to express themselves in a range of everyday situations; use present, past and future tense; ask questions; express personal opinions and preferences; enjoy reading simple texts and magazine articles; understand the spoken language in a variety of contexts. |

Advanced Conversation |
People who are able to express themselves fluently and confidently on a wide range of subjects, but want to maintain their level of fluency by updating and refining their communication skills. |
Standard courses
These courses consist of 2 parts: Introduction (5 weeks) & Continuation (25 or 30 weeks depending on level) In these classes you will develop your skills in Speaking, Listening, Reading and Writing.
Please note that the Continuation part of the course leads to a qualification, and you will be automatically entered for a test, or an exam.

• Part 1- Introduction: no previous knowledge required. You will study the introductory unit on Personal information, family, home & work. You will study a number of topics, e.g. shopping, food & drink, free time & entertainment. |

Level 2 |
• Part 1- Introduction: You have successfully completed a level 1 course in the language. You will now study the core unit: My Personal World. You will study a range of topics related to everyday life. You will learn more basic vocabulary, structures & different tenses to enable you to cope with predictable situations abroad. |
OCR-ASSET in the Reading skill at Preliminary Level or GCSE |

Level 3 |
• Part 1- Introduction: You have successfully completed a level 2 course, have a GCSE grade A or B, or have equivalent knowledge of the language. If you aim to achieve the AS level qualification, you must complete both parts of the course. |
OCR -ASSET in the Reading skill at Intermediate Level |

Level 3 |
• Part 1- Introduction: You have successfully completed the Level 3 Stage 1 course, have a pass at AS Level, or equivalent experience of the language. Your will learn to use your language skills in an increasingly sophisticated way, express yourself with greater confidence, accuracy and fluency in a range of contemporary topics, by selecting, manipulating & using complex vocabulary, register and structures. |

OCVC belongs to The Languages in Oxfordshire Partnership with Abingdon & Witney College and Oxfordshire County Council.
