About Disability Support

Supporting Your Studies
OCVC will do whatever it can to arrange any extra support needed to help you achieve. The College is committed to providing an environment that is conducive to successful learning.

Study Support
All full time students will undertake an initial assessment in literacy and numeracy to ensure that they are studying at the appropriate level and to identify any potential support needs. Extra help may be available for:-

• Spelling, punctuation, effective reading, essay writing and vocabulary building.
• Basic maths, arithmetic, decimals, percentages, graphs, data handling, geometry, trigonometry and algebra.
• Organising work, planning assignments, note taking and exam techniques.

Additional Skills Mentors (ASMs) may be available to work with you in and out of class on a 1:1 basis to support your learning and help you develop skills to succeed.

Hearing support
The Hearing Support Centre at OCVC offers support to students who are deaf or have a hearing impairment. We can arrange individual programmes of support which enables students to have equal access to their chosen course. We encourage any deaf or hearing impaired person to apply for full or part-time courses offered by the college.

Dyslexia Support
Specialist screening and assessments for dyslexia are available to all students from our team of highly qualified specialist teachers. This may lead to individual programmes of support, special examinations arrangements, full diagnosis assessments and/or help with applications for Higher Education grants for students with dyslexia.

Language Support
Individual support may be available for students for whom English is not their first language and require additional tuition to help them complete their course successfully.

Oxford Access Centre @ OCVC
The centre offers a friendly and supportive open access and advice to students with disabilities. Assistive technology is available for all students who may benefit from it and can be accessed on all sites.
