About Teacher Training

"If you want to teach in Further education, higher education, train in the workplace or teach 14-16 year olds in a FE College the CertEd or PGCE might just be the Learning Journey for you."

As long as you have GCSE Maths and English, a qualification in the subject that you wish to teach, a passion for your subject and a real interest in supporting people then teaching can be one of the most rewarding opportunities and experiences of your life!. The PGCE is a Higher Education Level 3 course, you can register for this course if you have a degree. If you do not have a degree then the HE level 1 CertEd is the course for you.

Whether you are a pre-service (without a teaching post) or an in-service (already have a teaching post) student this highly successful course will stretch your teaching potential and probably your self confidence and self esteem in ways you would not anticipate.

At the Banbury campus, the one and two year (part-time) courses have been guided by a highly qualified, experienced and inspirational team who demonstrate very high quality teaching and tutoring. The achievement rate of the course is one of the, if not the best at OCVC and all students have secured teaching posts either during or immediately after completion of the course.

In a recent Ofsted Inspection of Teacher Training the course was highly commended for its 3 day residential (at Bedford, where the faculty of Education is located) which is designed for students to work alongside colleagues from other Associate Colleges who teach their own or similar subjects.

The course is a mixture of taught modules, modules completed by tutorial and personal research and 60 hours of teaching practice per year. All students have a personal tutor and also a ‘mentor’ who is an experienced teacher of their own subject.

The teaching team are excited about being able to offer the same high quality courses at Oxford and Banbury campuses.
