About Media and Performing Arts

“We've stepped up to the challenge of providing a portfolio that ensures a rich mix of courses to aid in the individual's progression. Our ability to remain relevant and appeal to our students means consistent investment in all our specialists’ disciplines that include Media, Performing Arts, Music and Dance.”
Incorporating contemporary academic practices, progressive equipment, a curriculum that is embedded within strong industry standards and employer partnerships facilities, is what students studying media and performing arts at OCVC have come to expect.
The extensive portfolio currently includes moving image media, e-media, performing arts (acting), dance, contemporary music practice, film studies and digital imaging.
The portfolio in this curriculum area includes a range of vocational and academic programmes that are complimentary allowing students to study from an Introductory level 1, through to MA by Independent Study, in both full and part time routes.
The current higher education offer is developing to include courses in the areas of Dance, Music and Journalism/PR. Very often students who have joined the College at First Diploma level 2, remain at OCVC after successfully completing a level 3 course in order to complete degree study. For more information on the different progression routes within the area please click on the image below.
Staff are qualified to teach at the highest levels and have a profile of MAs with Phds in relevant fields. This is of obvious significance to college students who benefit by the academic acumen of the staff. Combined with their professional teaching qualifications, the majority are practitioners, with a wealth of experience in a number of areas. The current mix include scriptwriters, journalists, photographers, graphic artists, actors, dancers and film editors.
The ethos within the unit very much reflects that of OCVC, where creativity and the exploration of ideas and concepts are permitted to flourish. Students are encouraged to experiment and work across mixed media in order to achieve preferred outcomes.
With a programme of events and activities designed to promote that work, students learn, very quickly, a whole range of transferable skills that will benefit them with future careers.
OCVC is now an accredited Apple Training Centre
A recent proposal submitted by Jackie Whitehouse, Curriculum Manager for Media & Performing Arts to Apple UK has proved successful. A range of accredited professional Apple courses in Aperture, Final Cut Pro and Logic will be offered within Media at Oxford.
