About Foundation Studies

“Foundation Studies is a progressive and responsive area consistently updating curriculum to help young people respond to challenges in learning and life in order that their achievements sustain them beyond college.” Preparing a strong base for progression


At Oxford and Cherwell Valley College Foundation Studies cover a broad and diverse curriculum to facilitate a wide range of students with differing learning needs. .

Full Time Foundation Learning (Oxford and Banbury)

We offer a range of courses for young people with learning difficulties and /or disabilities or those who may need extra support with their learning. students have the opportunity to gather qualifications at suitable levels of ability. Where appropriate students have the opportunity to learn about work, for work and through work. All courses are designed to enhance functional skills in maths, English and ICT and personal and social skills. The course is enriched with opportunities for trips and residential.
 

Foundation Studies for Autistic Learners (Blackbird Leys)

The focus of this course is to enable the learner to make positive choices and gain independence. This course also enables the student to take a variety of appropriate qualifications at differing levels. The course addresses social undertsanding, communication and flexibility of thought. Each student follows an individual programme and will particpate in qualifications from Entry level to Level one enhancing vocational skills, functional skills in maths, English and ICT and skills and employability skills.

New Directions Entry Level (Oxford and Banbury)

The New Directions course is designed for students who may not have achieved their full potential at school, are undecided about which direction to take and who don't have the required qualifications to study at Level 1. This is a flexible course which can be studied full time alongside a part time job. This is a vocational course with up skilling in functional skills in maths, English and ICT, and a focus on the development of personal and social skills. The course will enhance students employability skills.

Level One Learning (Oxford and Banbury) All of our courses offer a fresh approach to vocational learning and a new opportunity for All of our courses offer a fresh approach to vocational learning and a new opportunity for students to develop academic and personal skills whilst increasing their levels of confidence and competency in preparation for the working world or progression onto level two. This is a flexible course which can be studied full-time alongside a part time job where appropriate. Level One currently offer learning opportunities in Motor Vehicle, Art and Media, Health and Social Care, Public Services, Hair and Beauty, Construction and IT @ Work (these options may change for 2010/11). Students study in their vocational choice one day a week and continue to up skill in functional skills in maths, English and ICT and personal and social skills on the remaining two days. Students may progress onto further college courses or leave college with a selection of qualifications recognised by employers.
