About Art and Design

"Art and Design continues to break new ground developing an innovative curriculum that meets the needs of our students of today and tomorrow and the creative industries. Be an architect of your future, developments include Apprenticeships, Foundation degrees, BA (Hons) and Postgraduate Degrees."

We are proud of our long tradition of excellent art and design higher education courses. We aim to develop the creative thinker prepared for industry and offer a range of subjects; fashion, graphics, furniture, fine art, design crafts and photography.

Our courses can be taken both full and part time to allow for a flexible, responsive delivery to fit with your lifestyle. Interdisciplinary practice is encouraged across courses and students have access to a wide range of well equip specialist workshops.

The team are well qualified to support your learning. In addition, we have a range of specialist subjects delivered by visiting tutors. Staff are actively participating in the creative industries which enriches our student experience; Tutors are passionate about their subject and our current students speak highly of the tutorial support they are given; our aim is to help you reach your potential.

Art_DesignThe area maintains a high profile by exhibiting both locally and nationally, events include Graduate Fashion Week and New Designers. In addition, we participate in and are regularly successful competitions. Regional, national and international trips form an important part of the curriculum. Recently these have included Venice, New York, Madrid and Berlin. Students find experiencing a variety of cultures enriches their work.

To ensure that you are equipped within your learning experience for industry we have developed strong employer liaison. Some students undertake placements to gainer understanding of the workplace. Many graduating students are now established as designers or artists and offer support to our current students. Our Foundation degree in particular works hand in hand with industry, we are in the process of developing a Foundation degree in graphic design and multimedia.
