Teaching and training

Do you harbour a passion to teach?

As long as you have GCSE Maths and English, a qualification in the subject that you wish to teach, a passion for your subject and a real interest in supporting people, then teaching can be one of the most rewarding opportunities and experiences of your life!

OCVC offers several different routes into teaching and training, which is ideal if you are considering a career change into teaching adults as many courses are part-time to fit around your other commitments.  You’ll be able to work in post-16 environments, including schools, colleges, police, prison service, hospitals, community education, in-house employer training and a wide range of locations in which adults are taught.

All courses are guided by a highly qualified, experienced and inspirational team who demonstrate very high quality teaching and tutoring, preparing you to apply for Qualified Teacher Learning & Skills (QTLS) status and membership of the Institute for Learning (IfL).  The achievement rate of our courses is one of the best at OCVC and all students have secured teaching posts either during or immediately after completion of their course.

If you plan to pursue a career teaching English to foreign learners, then book your place on a part-time Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults (CELTA) course. It will give you a broad base of knowledge and teaching skills to prepare you for teaching in most classroom situations worldwide, without using translation.

We also offer Introduction to TEFL if you would like a short 'taster' to find out whether you would enjoy this type of work.
