Sixth Form College
We pride ourselves on being a strongly student focused department with outstanding success rates. In 2011 all of our students seeking university places were successful following 100% pass rates in 16 A level subjects. Almost 50% of our grades were in the A* - B range. We achieve this by treating young people as adults and supporting them through a controlled and focused programme of learning. The college environment provides the structures through which they can mature into independent learners with the guidance of a dedicated team of specialist teaching staff.
We offer an innovative range of courses including a Level 3 Forensic Science course at Oxford that is equivalent to 3 A levels. Successful GCSE English and Maths re-sit courses also sit within our area. New for 2011 - 2012, we are introducing an Employment course to develop the skills that young people will need as they embark upon professional careers and navigate an increasingly complex range of opportunities.
We support our students in a variety of ways. Specialist learning mentors provide extensive advice and guidance by working individually with students. Study links with Oxford University will next year support a Tutorial system in which student satisfaction is already extremely high. Enrichment opportunities are also plentiful and include a popular annual ski trip to Switzerland and a variety of other subject related trips.
Students at OCVC are taught the skills to learn independently and given the space in which to grow as individuals. Timetables have been strongly influenced by discussions with students. We have designed an intensive 4 day programme that includes more teaching time than in local schools and yet frees up a day each week, within which students can organise their academic and other work commitments.
Students leave us as confident young people, well equipped to achieve their ambitions in education and in life.
