Apprenticeships
Oxford & Cherwell Valley College is the largest and one of the most successful providers of apprenticeship training in Oxfordshire. Being an apprentice allows you to learn on the job, build up knowledge and skills, gain your qualifications and earn money - all at the same time.
Theory and practical learning
By studying at College and training on site, you will learn the theory and the practical skills to help you understand all aspects of your job. You will be taught by staff who are specialists in their areas and will gain extensive industrial, technical and career experience. Funding for apprenticeship programmes is provided by the Skills Funding Agency. For students over the age of 19 a contribution from the employer is required for the cost of tuition.
There are three components to each apprenticeship programme:
Knowledge based qualifications
These provide you with the technical knowledge required for your chosen occupation. The training is usually delivered in College on a day or block release basis. In some areas, subject to minimum numbers, training is delivered on the employers’ premises.
Competence based qualifications
These assess your practical skills in the workplace against the standards required for your chosen occupation.
Key skills/ functional skills
These qualifications provide you with the required skills in English, Maths and ICT.Entry requirements for all apprenticeships
How to apply?
You must be in employment in the relevant occupation for a minimum of 30 hours per week to gain a place on one of our apprenticeship programmes.
You will need to attend an interview and an initial assessment test in literacy and numeracy. Some apprenticeships have additional entry requirements, and if this is the case, you will find them detailed against the individual course.
