Cutting the cost of study at college
Worried about the cost of being a student? We may have support available if you are on a family income of less than £30,000 a year. This guide explains the kind of support on offer and how to apply for it.
16-18 Student Support Scheme
Travel Bursary
Support may be available if you live more than three miles from the campus you are attending and your household income is less than £30,000 a year. For some students on low income, travel will be FREE.
Accommodation Bursary
Financial assistance towards living costs for students may be available if household income is less than £20,817 a year and you have to live away from home in order to study a specialist course at OCVC. (Motorsport, Bicester and Furniture Design, Oxford).
Course costs Bursary
Support towards essential college costs such as equipment, materials, trips and books. Level of support is dependent on household income (less than £20,817) or benefits.
Guaranteed Bursary
An award of up to £1,200 per year for the most vulnerable students
• those in care or leaving care
• those receiving income support
• those receiving Employment Support Allowance and Disability Living Allowance or Personal Independence payment.
Care to learn
An existing government scheme that can help pay towards your childcare costs while you learn, if you are under 20 years old (at the start of your course). To get your application pack please visit www.direct.gov.uk/caretolearn.
19+ Student Support Scheme
(N.B this is not relevant to students aged 24 and over studying at Level 3 or above. See below for information about 24+ Advanced Learning loan bursary)
Please be aware that some courses for students aged 19+ are not funded – you can check by speaking to a member of the Student services team.

Childcare support for Students age 20+ on 31st August 2012. (Not relevant to students aged 24 and over studying at Level 3 or above. See below for information about 24+ Advanced Learning loan bursary)
Pays a contribution towards the cost of childcare while you are studying if household income is less than £20,817 or you are in receipt of an income assessed benefit. Funding will initially be allocated subject to eligibility for up to two children per household. Any funding for additional children will be subject to available funds.

24+ Advanced Learning Loan Bursary
If you are using the 24+ Advanced Learning Loan to pay your tuition fee you may be eligible for support towards travel and/or childcare costs.

Additional Travel information
For students who are not eligible for financial support towards their travel costs most of the travel providers offer an ‘Under 19’ or Student pass which may be the most cost effective way to pay for your journey to college.
For students 19+ a period travel pass is often the cheapest way to pay but we would recommend that you check with the relevant travel company about the products that they offer:
