Strategic plan: 2010-2015

This will be our third strategic plan and it is written in a time of turbulence and change for all public sector organisations.

This plan has been written and developed in consultation with our community. The plan was worked on extensively by the senior management team and governors. Staff on all campuses were involved in a series of round tables held each term. We ran an employers event and consulted with senior staff at Oxford County Council. So hopefully the plan represents the views of a wider group of stakeholders. But we can’t lose sight of the fact that it is also written when the UK’s financial crisis and debt will mean cuts in public sector funding and tough times for many businesses.

Colleges like ours will therefore need to be fleet of foot, offer superb service and value for money. We will need to renew and remodel ourselves to ensure we evolve into an organisation capable of obtaining up to 50% of our income from sources other than Government funds. We will need to have business acumen, vision and astuteness. We need to make the right partnerships and enter the right markets. We need to build our reputation and ensure we emphasise our distinctiveness in all we do. To this end we have rewritten our mission and values and we will concentrate on preparing our staff and students for this new world. We will provide them with the contemporary knowledge they need, ensure their professionalism and develop their cognitive skills and emotional wellbeing.

We need to be ready and able to make best use of the opportunities which will be made available to us in terms of:

  • Apprenticeships
  • International students
  • Higher education
  • Employer-funded work
  • NEET
  • Stem

But key to this work will be the quality of all we do, the perceptions of our students, stakeholders and the wider community. We will now move from good to great in all we do and ensure our reputation is seen as excellent.
